CALLING ALL PARENTS: we need your help!
Don't be scared off by the obnoxious hours. The energy and enthusiasm of the party will keep you awake. It is truly a lot of fun to be a part of the event! Plus, we will have free coffee just in case you feel like you might nod off. Visit www.signupgenius.com/go/30E094CAEAF2EA57-night/3413562 to sign up.
Freshman and sophomore parents: we encourage you to get involved now and "pay it forward". You will want this event to be around when your child is an upperclassman.
Junior and Senior parents: we need you, too. If your student is begging you to stay away, we can find inconspicuous places for you to help out.
Don't forget: Hyatt & Co. in Maple Lawn is offering a special deal on tuxedo rentals to River Hill students. They are offering $20.00 off any tuxedo rental and a portion of each rental will be donated to the school to support the after-prom party.

PROMISE to Keep Kids SafeImportant Message from Mr. Novak, Principal: Prom season is upon us. While we expect our prom to be an incredible experience for all involved, we must acknowledge that there are certain possible situations that have occurred at proms and other such events that have led to negative consequences. We want this to be a special night full of positive memories & not one that serves as a horrible reminder of what can happen when a bad decision is made. I strongly encourage parents to have their students attend our After Prom - the P3. This is a wonderful and safe event that is an alternative to attending late night parties. These parties are many times the places where bad decisions are made. P3 is the right decision and is a blast for students. I hope to see your student in attendance. As we prepare for Prom, please work with us to send a unified message to our students. Our Central Office has prepared the following information that could be used in discussion with your sons and daughters. " Drivers under the age of 21 cannot have any alcohol in their systems. Therefore, one drink at home or on the way to a school sponsored event may result in severe disciplinary and legal penalties, including loss of driving privileges. " It is illegal for parents (or any adults) to serve alcohol to persons under the age of 21, even in home settings. " The Prom will be supervised by school staff, police officers, and private security guards. In addition, the After Prom P3, sponsored by the School and PTSA, will be supervised by parents, police officers, and a school staff member. All school rules will be enforced. Suspected alcohol/drug use or other inappropriate behavior could lead to a extended suspension from school. " If at all possible, families should provide transportation to and from the Prom and After Prom. " Families should contact the adult host(s) of any prom parties not sponsored by the PTSA to ensure that activities and level of supervision are acceptable. Each year we get word of parties where alcohol will be present, and immediately let the police know where and when. Howard County Police have an alcohol unit that investigates such parties and there is a number you can call (410 -313-2284) if you hear of a party where alcohol will be served. Let s work together to keep our students safe. " Families must not allow students to rent motel rooms or attend private parties at motel rooms. The Police will respond to all reports of loud parties, underage drinking or disorderly conduct. " The Department of Police, as part of its safe driving effort, is assigning additional police officers to patrol the areas around prom and after-prom parties for the sole purpose of keeping our students safe. They will strictly enforce all speed, DWI, seat belt and other violations that they observe. Yearbook Info
